The Knights of the Empire Germanica

German Re-enactment 1360 AD - 1410 AD

Welcome to the web page of The Knights of the Empire Germanica

We are a Brisbane based re-enactment group depicting the Germanic nobility of the Holy Roman Empire from 1360 AD to 1410 AD. We recreate the colour, traditions and day to day life of the nobility and their retainers during that time. By recreating the clothing, food, personal posesions and a camp site of the nobitlity whilst at tournament We are able experience what it was like to be a medieval noble on the move. To date we include armed knights, a Baron, Our Lady of the house and her Ladies in waiting and several high born men of arms. We actively perfom for the public and welcome new and potential members regardless of your heritage or background.

We are family orientated and strive to create an environment that enables learning about medieval Germanic life. Medieval re-enactment is a way of bringing history to life in an exciting and hands on way. Our members get to actively create and use their equipment and find out how it all works in a real life setting.

So how do we re-enact medieval Germanic life

The Knights of the Empire Germanica concerntrates on (but is in no way limited to) three main area's of             re-enactment

COMBAT

Combatants are trained by experienced instructors and follow a hands on and importantly 'SAFE' program of swordsmanship and European martial phillosophy. All training sessions are attended by a marshall and a first aid officer. personal protection equipment is worn and the session speed and complexity adjusted to suit the ability of the student

CRAFT

All members participate in some form of craft orientated activity. This may be constructing their own clothes, or participating in one of our woodworking or metal working workshops. Practically everything we use has to be constructed in a way that is historically and functionaly correct. We have on hand a wealth of resources for research and in addition an advising historian to help out with those 'hard to source' pieces of information.

Music

We are fortunate enough to have on hand two professionaly trained muisicians. Together these 'KEG Musicians create an ensemble that. recreates the popular music of medieval Europe. The Keg Ensemble entertains at feasts and around the campsite when at tournament. In additon they also provide mood music at tournaments and other events. The KEG Ensemble is open to all members with an interest and a will to bang, turn, hit, blow, chime or pluck an instrument. Recordings of the KEG Ensamble will be posted in MP3 format on this site soon!

Keep coming back for updted KEG footage and Music!
